Security Tips and Guide Lines For Holidays Season Online Shopping

Security Guide Lines apply these with any online transactions, fraudsters target everyone. Please be vigilant about protecting yourself while banking, shopping, etc. Also use these security guide lines when accessing any of your regularly visited, business or personal social media portals online.

How does online fraud work?
These attempts begin with a user’s PC being compromised with malicious code (malware) which may be activated when a user signs on to an online banking site. The user is presented with error messages and on-screen instructions which are not normal behaviors for the site. Users are encouraged to input their security credentials, and often instructed to wait during which time, fraudulent transactions are submitted using those same security credentials.

What should I NEVER do during sign on?

  • NEVER follow on-screen instructions to have a second user enter his or her token password during your sign on attempt. We will NEVER require a second user to authorize or authenticate you during your sign on.

  • NEVER follow on-screen instructions that prompt you enter your user ID, password and/or token password multiple times.

  • NEVER follow on-screen instructions to generate an eSig1 token password (for users of our new token). This is something that we only request for wire transfers, never during sign on.

  • NEVER follow on-screen instructions to enter digits or codes into the token device to generate a token password (for users of our new token). This is something that we only request for wire transfers, never during sign on.

What other unusual behaviors should I look for?
The following are warning signs that your computer may be infected with malware:

  • PC processing may become very slow

  • On-screen error messages state that the online banking system is currently unavailable and/or instruct you to “try again later”

  • On-screen instructions may request the user to input their security credentials several times

  • On-screen messages may refer to registration or synchronization of token devices

  • Elements of the page may be missing, misplaced or may not render fully or correctly

  • Web pages have misspellings and/or grammatical errors

What should I do?
If you experience any of these behaviors, please stop using the online system and contact us or any at security suppor of the system you’re using.
